In der Ausstellung »Schrift im Raum« zeigt die Galerie Parrotta Arbeiten des Graphikdesigners Andreas Uebele (*1960), die ihn zusammen mit seinem 1996 in Stuttgart gegründetem Büro für visuelle Kommunikation als einen der bedeutendsten Vertreter der Gegenwartstypografie auszeichnen. Während in Ausstellungskontexten die Schrift normalerweise als Mittel zum Zweck der Erläuterung von ausgestellten Exponaten in Dienst genommen wird, kehrt sich die Mittel-Zweck-Relation in dieser Ausstellung um und wird aufgehoben: Losgelöst von ihrer Zweckhaftigkeit repräsentiert die Schrift hier nur sich selbst und erhebt sich selbst zum Exponat. Daher ist es konsequent, dass Andreas Uebele dieser Aufkündigung einer inhaltlichen Gebundenheit auch eine formale Befreiung der Schrift vom Paradigma ihrer Zweidimensionalität folgen lässt und ihr gestattet, eine Beziehung zum Raum aufzunehmen – in allen präsentierten Arbeiten findet sich die Schrift von den Gesetzmäßigkeiten entbunden, denen das gedruckte Wort gewöhnlich unterliegt. Aus verschiedenen Projekten wurden typografische Bilder destilliert, die als Ausschnitte dargeboten werden und damit auch von der Schrift losgelöst erfahrbar sind. Das Büro Uebele Visuelle Kommunikation wurde jüngst mit dem Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Gold ausgezeichnet und mit dem Auftrag bedacht, für das Parlament ein neues Corporate Design zu entwickeln, dessen Entwurf auch die Herausforderung einer grafischen Überarbeitung des Bundestagsadlers umfasste. Weit über 200 Arbeiten des Büros sind preisgekrönt und in internationalen Sammlungen und Museen vertreten, wie dem Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, The Chicago Athenaeum und dem Museum of Modern Art Toyama. Andreas Uebele ist seit 1998 Professor für visuelle Kommunikation an der Fachhochschule Düsseldorf und Mitglied der AGI, Alliance Graphique Internationale.

In the exhibition »Type in Space« Gallery Parrotta presents the work of architect and graphic designer Andreas Uebele (*1960). In 1996 Uebele founded his own agency for visual communication in Stuttgart. Together they are celebrated as one of the most important representatives of contemporary typography. While in exhibition contexts the text is normally seen with the purpose of explaining the displayed exhibition, the central purpose in this exhibition reverses itself and is canceled: Liberated from its function the text here is represented alone and rises up to be the art work itself. Therefore it is only logical that Andreas Uebele lets this cancellation of a connection with the content also follow a formal freeing of the text from the paradigm of its two-dimensionality and allows it to take up a relationship with the space. In all the presented work the text is relieved of its regularities, to which the flat printed word usually is subject. From different projects the typographic images were distilled, and presented as cutouts to permit the text to be detached from the writing. Andreas Uebele and his agency were recently awarded by the Federal Republic of Germany with the »Designpreis Gold« and received the commission to develop for the parliament a new Corporate Design, that would encompass the project and also the challenge of a graphic revision of the Bundestagsadler. The Office Andreas Uebele has gained over 200 awards and is presented in international collections, as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, The Chicago Athenaeum and the museum of Modern Art Toyama. Since 1998 Andreas Uebele is Professor of visual communication at Fachhochschule Düsseldorf and member of AGI, Alliance Graphique Internationale.
