In the series "Scanscape", that evolved in the mid-90s in California, Parrotta Gallery shows the work of the 1966 born, living in Berlin, photographer Marc Räder. His photographs reflect the voluntary exclusion, standardization and dehistoricization in private residences of the middle and upper class (gated communities). Through the application of a partial depth of field, Marc Räder manages to capture formally the artificiality of these places, they take on a model character, as known in images of architectural models and dollhouses. The initial fascination with what appears to be a true to detail toy landscape suggests in dismay about the "reality" around these places.
Marc Räder studied photography at the Essen Folkwang School and at the California College of Arts in San Francisco. In 2000 he received the Krupp Fellowship for contemporary photography at the Museum Folkwang Essen. Marc Räder already participated in numerous exhibitions in Germany, Europe, Americas and Asia, including Photographers Gallery, London and Reis Engelhorn Museums, Mannheim. His works can be found in numerous private and public collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Hallmark Photographic Collection and collection of Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg. The works of Marc Räder can be found, in addition to "Scanscape" (1999), "Mallorca - Iceland in Progress" (2007) was recently published.
